You’ve scheduled an appointment at MIT Health; now what? With a little preparation, you can make everything go more smoothly on the day of your visit.
Digital registration
With digital registration, you can save time on appointment day.
- Take care of paperwork ahead of time. Fill out forms, confirm your insurance information, and pay your copay (if applicable) before your appointment — at your convenience. Use any mobile device or computer with internet access.
- Use your unique, secure link. We’ll send the link by email. We’ll also send it by text, if we have your mobile phone number. Click on the link, enter your name and date of birth, confirm that you want to keep the appointment, and follow the prompts. We may need to confirm your insurance information — just upload a photo of your insurance card. We may also ask you to fill out some forms or pay a copay.
- Take your time. You don’t need to complete the digital registration process all at once. The system lets you pause and resume as needed. When you’re ready to continue, you can pick up exactly where you left off. Once you’re finished, you’ll see a screen that says, “Thanks, all done!”
If you need to cancel or reschedule
As long as you have not completed the entire digital registration process, you can cancel and/or reschedule your appointment by using the appointment reminder/secure digital registration link you received by text or email 72 hours and 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time. You can use this link up until two hours before your scheduled appointment. You can also cancel and/or reschedule using MIT Health’s Digital Navigator tool.
If you have completed the entire digital registration process, you will need to call to cancel or reschedule. If it is less than two hours before your scheduled appointment time (or 24 hours for acupuncture), you will need to call.
If you authorized a copay during digital registration and then cancel the appointment, that payment hold will be released within seven days.
If you’re running late…
If you are running late on the day of your appointment, call to let us know when you expect to arrive. When you call, we’ll let you know if we can still see you when you arrive, if we can reschedule you for later the same day, or if we need to reschedule your appointment for another day.
We will cancel your appointment if we don’t hear from you and you arrive more than 15 minutes late or after more than half of your scheduled appointment time has already lapsed. We will still make every effort to see you that day, but we may need to reschedule your appointment to a later date.
Digital check-in
Did you complete your digital registration? If so, you can skip the line at the front desk, and check in for your appointment on your mobile phone.
- Look for our text. If we have a mobile phone number on file for you, you’ll get a text 30 minutes before your medical appointment (or 15 minutes before a lab appointment). But don’t click that link quite yet!
- Go to the waiting room at MIT Health. Once you are in the waiting area for your appointment, click the button labeled “Confirm & check-in.”
- Wait for confirmation. Within 10 seconds, you should get a message confirming that your check-in was successful. Then just have a seat, and wait to be called.
Of course, you are welcome to check in at the front desk if you prefer. Our patient service representatives will be happy to help you.
Did your clinician order lab work?
If your clinician orders routine lab work at your appointment, you can visit the MIT Health Laboratory on the same day or at another time that is convenient. You can schedule online, call to make an appointment (617-253-4481, option 7), or just walk in and take the next available time slot.
Appointment follow-up
Use our patient portal, HealthELife, to view your lab results, communicate securely with your provider, request prescription refills, and read your clinician’s notes from your appointment.
Don’t have a HealthELife account? It’s easy to sign up:
- Self-enroll online using the email address we have on file for you, or
- Stop by any front desk to request an invitation by email.
Once you’ve activated your account, you can log in with any web browser. Or download the free HealthELife app to your mobile device(s) from Google Play or the App Store.
