This is a list of resources for some of the most common concerns new parents may have. If you have a healthcare concern — for you or your baby — be sure to speak with your obstetrician, certified nurse midwife, primary care physician, or your child’s pediatrician.
- Childcare — MIT Work-Life provides a network of resources for employees, post-docs, and graduate students. This includes, childcare centers, back-up childcare, and help choosing childcare, schools, and camps. MIT also offers childcare subsidies for employees.
- Integrative services — Resources for acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage services. MIT students and employees can make appointments with MIT Health’s Acupuncture Service.
- Lactation consultants — Find help with breastfeeding concerns in this searchable directory from the United States Lactation Consultant Association.
- Mental Health — Post-partum depression and other mental health concerns are real and important to address. Student Mental Health & Counseling is available for MIT students. MyLife Services is an MIT benefit available to all employees and post-docs.
- Parent coaching (employees and post-docs) – MIT offers one free consultation session yearly with Peace at Home Parenting Solutions to discuss any parenting questions or concerns.
- Pelvic floor physical therapy — There are multiple Boston-area locations to receive pelvic floor PT. Speak with your provider about the best location for you and about getting pre-approval for PT, so your insurance plan will cover these services.
- Sexual pain — Discuss concerns about sexual pain after delivery with your MIT Health obstetrician or certified nurse midwife.
- Sleep resources (for you) — Sleep resources from MIT Health, including podcasts and online courses.
- Sleep training — The Boston Children’s Hospital Sleep Center can help you find solutions to children’s sleep problems.
- Social and community connections — Join the MIT Families Slack channel to connect with other parents in the MIT community. This is a place where you can ask questions and get support from your peers.
- Support groups — Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) provides a variety of free support groups for new parents. JF&CS groups are not connected to any religion and are open to all Boston-area parents.
