FAQ: Behavioral Health in Primary Care

Is Behavioral Health in Primary Care open to everyone in the MIT community?

No. Behavioral Health in Primary Care is part of MIT Health’s Primary Care Service and was designed for patients who receive their primary care at MIT Health.

I get my primary care at MIT Health. Can I call and make an appointment for a behavioral health consultation?

No. To schedule a behavioral health consultation, you must be referred by your MIT Health primary care provider (PCP). You cannot self-refer.

How can I get an appointment with Behavioral Health?

Contact your primary care provider (PCP) to discuss your concerns. If your PCP thinks that you may benefit from a consultation with Behavioral Health, they will provide a referral that will allow you to make an appointment.

Can Behavioral Health provide me with ongoing therapy?

No. Behavioral Health in Primary Care is a consultation service, not a full-service outpatient clinic. MyLife Services, a resource available to all MIT employees, can provide referrals for ongoing services.
