Let’s Chat is a drop-in service for MIT undergraduate and graduate students that offers informal, confidential consultation with clinicians from MIT Health’s Student Mental Health & Counseling.
You can participate in Let's Chat in person or virtually. For an in-person visit, stop by the MIT Office of Minority Education during drop-in hours. To chat virtually, visit the Let's Chat Zoom room when it's open, and a clinician will join you there.
Let’s Chat consultations are ...
- Free for MIT students
- Informal, and not a substitute for counseling
- Offered first-come, first-served (no appointment necessary)
- Typically, about 20–25 minutes in length
- Not appropriate for urgent concerns or mental health emergencies
During a Let’s Chat consultation, a SMH&C counselor can listen to specific problems, help you explore solutions, and introduce you to what it’s like to speak with a member of our staff. Let’s Chat is not a substitute for counseling and does not constitute mental health treatment. Please refer to our FAQ for more details.
Other options for care from SMH&C include individual counseling, group counseling, walk-in services, and 24/7 phone consultation. If you are in crisis, call Student Mental Health & Counseling at 617-253-4481, option 2, and ask to speak with a mental health clinician, or call 911.
Let’s Chat is modeled after Cornell Health’s Let’s Talk program and content from the Let’s Talk website is used with permission.
