Position Overview:
The Physician, Family Medicine provides longitudinal and episodic primary care to MIT Health patients within a team-based care model. The physician will assess patient health status through interview and physical exam and synthesize this clinical information to formulate health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of follow up strategies according to age-specific plans of care. The physician also provides health education, supportive counseling, and clinical outreach to the MIT community in collaboration with other individuals or services at MIT Health.
This position is in Lexington, MA.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities*
- Promotes high-value health care for all patients of MIT Health; assures timely access to care, is attentive to patient experience and cost of care; utilizes shared decision making when appropriate to establish a plan of care.
- Conducts comprehensive assessments and examinations of patients to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions, emphasizing primary care.
- Develops and implements personalized treatment and care management plans based on patient needs and evidence-based medicine.
- Coordinates care with specialists and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
- Triages emergencies and coordinates transfer of patients to emergency room when needed.
- Conducts telephone and video encounters, triages patient concerns in partnership with others on the healthcare team, responds to patient portal messages, and provides written correspondence for follow-up, patient education and information.
- Maintains accurate and timely medical records for patients. Documents all in-person, telephone, video, and portal encounters in the electronic medical record according to organizational policies and protocols, regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Formulates, directs, and monitors appropriate treatment; emphasizes a comprehensive approach for patient care.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
- Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability; assists with the provision of procedural care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
- Responsible for monitoring patient compliance with prescription opioid medication through periodic toxicity screening and by utilizing the Massachusetts Prescription Awareness Tool, communication with other treating providers and opioid risk assessment questionnaires. Follows all MIT Health policies and state and federal regulations for prescription of controlled substances.
- Provides education and counseling on various health–related topics to MIT community.
- Collaborates with a supportive team of healthcare professionals, including nurses, medical assistants, behavioral health clinicians, dietitians, population health teams, and administrative staff to deliver high-quality care to patients.
- Responsible for monitoring and closing gaps in care for patient panel. Actively participates in performance improvement activities to improve the quality of care provided.
- Participates in team, department, and organization meetings.
- Adheres to the MIT Health Infinite Caring Compact and MIT Health policies as well as state and federal rules, regulations, and community standard of care.
- Responsible for maintenance of all required licensures and certification, and for providing up-to-date documentation of all licenses and certificates to MIT Health.
- Responsible for telephonic on-call coverage on a rotational basis.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine residency program with an accredited US institution.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
- Current provider certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) optional.
- Valid MA license, MA CSR and Federal DEA.
- Previous clinical experience in primary care of adults with demonstrated competence; experience caring for children and young adults a plus but not required.
- Possess positive leadership qualities; ability to remind others of practice/clinic policies when needed and conduct crucial conversations.
- Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with all levels of employees and providers with ability to give and receive both positive and negative feedback.
- Demonstrated competence with modern electronic medical records systems and Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint etc.)

Pay Range: $230,000 - $260,000 annually, final salary determined by MIT’s compensation team based on the skills and experience of the person hired
