Reports to: Clinical Director, Behavioral Health

Position Overview:

The Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LISCW), Behavioral Health, is expected to provide direct clinical services to MIT faculty and employees and their families, and function as a member of the embedded Primary Care Behavioral Health team. 
Responsibilities are, but are not limited to:

  • Initial clinical evaluations.
  • Stabilization and short-term therapeutic support.
  • Collateral Information of outside providers.
  • Collaborate with team members and Primary Care staff.
  • Provider psycho-education and training to Primary Care staff.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities*

  • Provides mental health screening and initial assessments of the patient in their current situation and environment.
  • Develops short-term treatment plans with appropriate and competent interventions.
  • Provides short-term treatments, psycho-education and/or counseling utilizing individual modalities.
  • Provides information, referral and creative resource acquisition for specific individual needs.
  • Collaborates with and provides psychosocial consultation to the Primary Care Team to promote a smooth, coordinated plan of care.
  • Provides urgent consultations and support to Primary Care, Urgent Care and other areas of MIT Health.
  • In collaboration with the Behavioral health team, develops initiatives to meet the evolving needs of the MIT Health community.
  • Aids the team in understanding and integrating the significance of psychosocial factors in relation to patient’s psychiatric challenges, treatment, and recovery. Makes recommendations to the team regarding care and management.
  • Assists Primary Care Team in promoting patient and/or family level of understanding in order to make informed decisions.
  • Provides care in an interpersonally and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Develops and facilitates groups as needed.
  • Ensures clinical documentation is complete and according to department standards, policies, and regulatory bodies.
  • Performs other administrative documentation and record keeping, such as Smartsheets, billing, etc. in a complete and timely manner.
  • Maintains knowledge of current research and information related to practice and critically analyzes, utilizes, and shares with colleagues, as appropriate.
  • Participates in continuing education offerings both within, as well as external conferences and seminars.
  • Maintains record of continuing education as required for licensure and any specialty certification.
  • Collaborates with clinical and administrative staff in identifying performance improvements initiatives and contributes to improved outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • Minimum of 2 years post Master’s Degree social work experience.
  • Licensure at the Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) level in Massachusetts.
  • Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care.
