Reports to: Clinical Director, Primary Care
Position Overview:
The Family or Internal Medicine physician provides primary care to MIT Health patients within a team-based care model. The physician will assess patient health status through interview and physical exam and synthesize this clinical information to formulate health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of follow-up strategies according to age-specific plans of care. The physician also provides health education, supportive counseling, and clinical outreach to the MIT community in collaboration with other individuals or services at MIT Health and across the MIT community.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities*
- Promotes high-value health care for all patients of MIT Health; assures timely access to care, is attentive to patient experience and cost of care; utilizes shared decision-making when appropriate to establish a plan of care.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and examinations of patients to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions, emphasizing primary care.
- Develop and implement personalized treatment and care management plans based on patient needs and evidence-based medicine.
- Coordinate care with specialists and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
- Triages emergencies and coordinates the transfer of patients to the emergency room when needed.
- Conducts telephone encounters, responds to patient portal messages, and provides written correspondence for follow-up, patient education and information, and triage as necessary as evidenced by documentation in the medical record.
- Formulates, directs, and monitors appropriate treatment, including prescription writing, which emphasizes a comprehensive approach for patient care.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
- Implements interventions to support the patient regaining or maintaining physiologic stability; assists with the provision of procedural care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
- Responsible for monitoring patient compliance with opioid medication through periodic toxicity screening and by utilizing the Mass Prescription Awareness Tool, communication with other treating providers, and opioid risk assessment questionnaires.
- Provide education and counseling on various health–related topics to MIT community.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with regulatory standards and MIT Health’s policy.
- Collaborate with a supportive team of healthcare professionals, including nurses, medical assistants, social workers, dietitians, population health teams, and administrative staff, to deliver high-quality care to your patients.
- Adhere to MIT Health Policies as well as State and Federal rules, regulations, and standard of care.
- Telephonic on-call on a rotational basis.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine residency program with an accredited US institution.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
- Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) optional.
- Valid MA license, MA CSR and Federal DEA.
- Previous clinical experience in primary care of adults with demonstrated competence; experience caring for children and young adults a plus but not required.
- Possess positive leadership qualities; ability to remind others of practice/clinic policies when needed and conduct crucial conversations.
- Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with all levels of employees and providers with ability to give and receive both positive and negative feedback.
